Stepping in: door, step and headroom

The side sliding door opens onto a lit step roughly 15 to 17 inches off the ground, with a grab handle on the B-pillar. Once inside a high-roof van, most adults stand upright — about 6 feet 4 inches from floor to ceiling — and walk to their seat down a real aisle rather than climbing over a bench. That single characteristic is why churches, teams and multi-generational families prefer a Sprinter over a traditional 15 passenger van, where every rear passenger has to shuffle sideways past knees.

The rows: seats, belts and legroom

Factory passenger layouts run three or four rows behind the front seats, three or four across. Every position has a three-point belt anchored to the seat frame or the body — not a lap belt. Legroom between rows is generous by van standards because the extended-wheelbase body is over 22 feet long overall. Seatbacks are firm and upright, sized for durability rather than lounging, with grab handles overhead. Rows are removable, so a fleet can present the same van as a 15 passenger or as a 12 passenger with a cargo bay.

Climate, light and power

A duct runs the length of the roof with adjustable outlets so the last row receives conditioned air, which is the difference between a comfortable July trip and a mutiny. LED ceiling strips light the aisle; individual reading lights appear in higher trims and conversions. USB charging is available in the front cabin and, in most fleet vans, in the rear. Executive conversions add 110V outlets, ambient color lighting and window shades.

The back: luggage, access and loading

Rear barn doors open wide — often to 270 degrees — giving a low, square opening for loading. In a 12 passenger configuration the space behind the last row swallows roughly ten to twelve airline suitcases upright. In a 15 passenger configuration that space is largely consumed by the fourth row, so plan on soft bags or a roof-free packing strategy. Load heavy items forward of the rear axle for the best highway stability.
