The belt rule
Capacity is defined by belted seating positions, not by how many people can squeeze onto a bench. Every occupant of a moving vehicle needs their own three-point belt — that is both the law in every U.S. state for this vehicle class and the only configuration our rentals allow. Factory Sprinter passenger vans provide a belt at each of their twelve or fifteen positions, so the seat count and the legal capacity are the same number.
Fitting people and their belongings
Fifteen people fit; fifteen people plus fifteen suitcases do not. The fourth row sits exactly where a luggage bay would be. Groups arriving by air almost always end up in a 12 passenger configuration, which holds roughly ten to twelve airline bags behind the last row. Groups shuttling locally between a hotel and a venue keep the fifteenth seat and leave bags behind. Deciding this before you book prevents a very bad curbside surprise.
Comfort per passenger by layout
Fifteen-seat layout: three-across benches, adequate for trips under a few hours. Twelve-seat layout: the same rows with luggage relief and easier movement. Executive layout: individual reclining chairs with armrests, tables and far more legroom, typically seven to ten passengers. If your trip is longer than three hours or client-facing, step down in capacity and up in layout — the vehicle cost difference is smaller than the comfort difference.
