Fleets install or remove the rear row depending on demand, which is why the exteriors are indistinguishable and why you must book a configuration rather than a model. Fifteen seats maximizes headcount; twelve seats maximizes usable space. Both have three-point belts at every position, roughly 6 feet 4 inches of standing headroom in high-roof form, and roof-ducted climate to the rear.
How many people it holds comfortably
For an hour-long shuttle run, fifteen is fine. For a full travel day, ten to twelve is where the van still feels good — everyone has elbow room, bags are in the bay rather than underfoot, and rest stops do not require choreography. Executive conversions with seven to ten captain's chairs are the comfort maximum, since each passenger gets an individual reclining seat, an armrest and often a table.
Weight and safety considerations
The 3500 chassis is rated near 11,030 pounds GVWR with roughly 4,000 to 5,000 pounds of payload, so a full load of passengers is well within limits. Handling changes with load, though: leave more following distance, brake earlier, keep heavy luggage ahead of the rear axle, and never stack bags above the seatbacks. Modern Sprinters include crosswind assist and available blind-spot and active brake assist, which meaningfully help a fully loaded tall vehicle.
